Careless driving in general will mean falling below the standard of an ordinary driver. For example, where a driver has been seen to commit several breaches of the highway code. So where a driver has failed to comply with the rules of the road, it might be reasonable to infer that the offence of careless driving may have been committed.
If you have been accused of careless driving it is advisable to seek legal advise at the earliest opportunity in order to put forward a strong defence and/or minimise penalties.
The penalties for careless driving include:
- A €1,500 fine and/or three months imprisonment
- Penalty points on driving licence
- Endorsement of driving licence
